Federal Healthcare Bill Passes. What next?

From Michael Novak’s book On Two Wings (Pgs. 21-22):

‘“The Congressional Decree of 1781:

‘“…Through the whole of the contest [i.e., the War for Independence], from its first rise to this time, the influence of Divine Providence may be clearly perceived in many signal instances, of which we mention but a few.”

‘The Congress then listed seven accomplishments of Providence on behalf of the cause of liberty: in revealing the councils of the British in fortuitous ways; in strengthening the union of states; in heightening the number and zeal of the friends of liberty; in rescuing our forces from certain disasters and blessing us with surprising victories; in bringing the great strength of France to liberty’s aid; in leading the British “to pursue such measures as have most directly contributed to frustrate their own desires and expectations;” and, seventh and “above all, in making their extreme cruelty to the inhabitants of these States, when in their power, and their savage devastation of property, the very means of cementing our union, and adding vigor to every effort in opposition to them.”’

When defeat seemed to be closing in on the soldiers from the 13 American colonies in 1776 and 1777, they did not give up the field to Great Britain and, looking back in 1781, found that much help had come to them from God in those years and thereafter.  The Congressional Decree of 1781 was written to thank God for “the interpositions of his Providence in their behalf.”

Now we, the descendants of those stout-hearted patriots, have entered our own time of trouble – with our whole society’s inheritance of order, justice, and liberty balanced perilously on the edge of a great abyss, with armies of Washington, D.C., centralizers, bureaucrats, and statisticians straining to push it over that crag.  Our ancestors did not yield to an abusive government; they did not despair during dark hours.  Nor should we.

Rather, to the battlements!  To the towers!  To the trenches!  To wherever an opportunity arises! – in the courts, in the media, in the state legislatures, or in parish courthouses.

Below is a plan of action I recommend we all follow.

If you have not contacted your state legislators in support of SB 26 (the Healthcare Freedom Act), the La. Senate bill to veto Obamacare in La., please do so now.  Look up your state legislators here:

In addition to your own state legislators, also contact Speaker of the House Jim Tucker, President of the Senate Joel Chiasson, and Gov. Jindal and make a firm appeal for their support of SB 26.  Contact them using the information below.

-Rep. Tucker

E-mail:  larep086@legis.state.la.us

Phone:  (504) 393-5646

-Sen. Chiasson

E-mail:  websen@legis.state.la.us

Phone:

Capitol Office
(225) 342-2040

District Office
(985) 764-9911

Fax: (985) 764-9686

-Gov. Jindal

E-mail:

Or

bobby.jindal@la.gov

Phone:  (225) 342-7015

At the parish level, please contact the police jurors (or their equivalent if your parish does not have a police jury) and the sheriff of your parish and ask them to prevent Obamacare from being enforced in your parish.

Parish governments can be looked up here:

http://www.lpgov.org/directory/index.html

and parish sheriffs here:

http://www.lsa.org/public/sheriffdirectory.aspx

The parishes are as well within their rights to protect their citizens by nullification of unconstitutional laws as are states.

Finally, if you know any doctors, constitutional scholar Prof. Robert Natelson has this advice for them:

Health care provider non-compliance: To the extent they can, physicians and other providers should opt out of the system. Their choices include partial or complete refusal to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other government programs; refusal to take any but direct-payment patients; reduced work hours; and even career change and early retirement. Students considering a medical career should now reconsider.”

‘“Nil desperandum” – never despair.’  (Hopefully National Review won’t mind my using a sentence from their editorial – http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2010/03/22/had-enough/)  That is my closing exhortation to you all.  Pray to God to come to the aid of our just cause, and then work earnestly in the role you are given to restore limited government.  It may yet be that in four or five years’ time, we will be writing our own Congressional Decree thanking Almighty God for the assistance he gave us in our struggle to overcome an oppressive government.
